Learn to Swim Advanced (ROOKIES)

Our Learn to Swim Advanced section supports swimmers progressing from Level 1 to Club Ready in the Scottish Swimming Learn to Swim Framework.

Swimmers in this programme typically attend lane swimming sessions once or twice a week.

What to Expect

Lane 1: Swimmers start just able to complete lengths and quickly build stamina and fitness.

As swimmers move through the lanes, there’s a strong focus on technique development across all four strokes, along with diving and tumble turns.

By Lane 6, swimmers are competent in all strokes, starts, turns, and diving, and are considered ‘club ready’.

We also introduce optional gala experiences, both within the club and through local competitive leagues.

Throughout the programme, we place a strong emphasis on:

Fun

Personal development

Self-improvement

Training Framework & Assessment:

We follow the Scottish Swimming Learn to Swim Framework and run assessments four times per year to ensure swimmers are progressing appropriately.

Our 12-week training cycle includes:

Focused sessions on all strokes

Dedicated weeks for starts, turns, and diving

Opportunities for competition experience

Swimmers at Levels 1 and 2 typically attend one 1-hour session per week, while those at higher levels are invited to attend two 1-hour sessions weekly.
