Swim Squad

The purpose of our squad structure is to provide a clear pathway for swimmers who have reached the Club Ready level of Scottish Swimming’s Learn to Swim Framework (introduced in 2016), and who are ready to take the next step in their swimming development.

Our programme is designed to:

Increase training frequency and volume

Enhance stroke technique

Develop racing skills and mental resilience

Foster a team spirit and positive training culture

We aim to create an environment where swimmers of similar ability and ambition can train and grow together. The structure is particularly suited to those who wish to pursue competitive swimming, and each squad is aligned with the entry standards of the next level in the hierarchy.

Training follows the principles of the SASA Long Term Athlete Development Pathway:

Stage 2: Swim Skills – Building Technique, through to Stage 5: Training to Win.

Each squad has a minimum training requirement, and all swimmers are expected to meet this standard. While these are enforced, swimmers are encouraged to attend additional sessions to further their development.

As swimmers move through the squad levels, the expectations and training commitments increase. Swimmers—and their parents—should consider whether they have the time and dedication required to meet these commitments before entering the squad programme.
